Twifi: Parents name child after Internet provider

Seriously? In Switzerland, parents have decided to name their child after an Internet provider. He promised them 18 years of free surfing …

Perhaps the Twifi employees were just kidding. Maybe the joke turned into an advertising campaign. And maybe you never assumed that someone would contact them anyway. But the Internet provider had underestimated the willingness of young parents to make sacrifices when it comes to the sacred web.

"18 years of free internet if you name your child Twifia or Twifius"

But back to the beginning: The Internet provider "Twifi" started a very unusual campaign some time ago. On social media, he called for a newborn child to be named after the company. "18 years of free internet if you name your child Twifia or Twifius," they wrote.

This is followed by ridicule. Nobody would do that anyway, it said in numerous comments below the post. But they were wrong. Because a freshly baked pair of parents from the Swiss canton of Graubünden accepted the advice for finding a name with thanks.

As "Blick.ch" reports, a couple who want to remain anonymous actually sent in a copy of a birth certificate – and it was there in black and white: They had named their daughter Twifia – albeit only with a third name.

"We're a little ashamed, too," the father is said to have admitted to "Blick". Since the accusation that she had sold her baby's name would hit her very badly, they both wanted to remain anonymous. The couple was not concerned with the money. Rather, it would have tempted the parents to give such an extraordinary name. Admittedly, there are definitely not many girls named Twifia.

Twifi is now keeping its promise – and Twifia's family will again receive free internet for 18 years. The parents want to deposit the money saved into an account for their daughter.
