Thunderstorms over Carinthia – fire brigades moved back into the area

A storm front with heavy rain moved across large parts of Carinthia on Friday evening. In the storm areas around the community of Treffen, the Pöllingerbach burst its banks again. Several fire brigades responded.

“Five fire brigades went to the community of Treffen for a total of two operations,” says the state alarm and warning center (LAWZ). There was slight flooding, but the situation is under control. Thunderstorms can be strong in places. Locally, however, the thunderstorms on Friday evening can be strong and cause large amounts of rain in a short time as well as hail. “The main danger is small-scale flooding or mudslides, but stormy gusts of around 60 km/h are also occasionally possible in Lower Carinthia,” says the Severe Weather Center (UWZ). During the evening, the thunderstorms will move south to Friuli and Slovenia and the weather calmed down quickly.
