“Succession” and “Ted Lasso” scooped many awards

HBO’s “Succession” won Best Drama at the Emmys, and “Ted Lasso” again won Best Comedy. Those were the highlights.

“Succession” (HBO, Best Drama Series), “Ted Lasso” (Apple, Best Comedy Series), and “The White Lotus” (HBO, Best Miniseries) were the series that won at the Primetime Emmy Awards were honored with top awards Monday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Winners also include: Zendaya (26, Best Actress/Drama Series in “Euphoria”, HBO), Amanda Seyfried (36, Best Actress/Miniseries in “The Dropout”, Hulu), Jason Sudeikis (46, Best Actor/Comedy Series in “Ted Lasso”) and Michael Keaton (71, Best Actor/Miniseries in “Dopesick”, Hulu).

“Squid Game” to “Saturday Night Live”

Lee Jung-jae (49) secured the trophy for Best Actor in a Drama Series for “Squid Game” (Netflix). Hwang Dong-hyuk (51) won the award for best director for the drama series. Julia Garner (28) won best supporting actress in the drama series “Ozark” (Netflix), Matthew Macfadyen (47) won best supporting actor in “Succession”.

Jean Smart (71, “Hacks”, HBO) was honored as Best Comedy Series Actress, Sheryl Lee Ralph (65) as Best Supporting Actress in the Comedy Series “Abbott Elementary” (ABC) and Brett Goldstein (42, “Ted Lasso”) as Best Comedy Supporting Actor. And the award for Best Director in a Comedy Series also went to “Ted Lasso”: MJ Delaney.

Mike White (52, “The White Lotus”) won the counterpart in the mini series. The jury found the best supporting actors in a miniseries in “The White Lotus”: Jennifer Coolidge (61) and Murray Bartlett (51).

In addition to many other award winners in the 25 competition categories, “Saturday Night Live” also received an award, the show is the best sketch series of the year. In addition, Geena Davis (66) accepted the Governors Award on behalf of the Geena Davis Institute.

Exceptionally on a Monday evening

Kenan Thompson, 44, hosted the Emmys, which was broadcast live from coast to coast on NBC (and also streamed on Peacock). The awards ceremony is usually held on a Sunday, except during years when NBC has the broadcast rights, which broadcasts NFL games on Sunday nights. The Emmys are alternately broadcast by ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC.

A week before the Primetime Emmys aired, the 2022 Creative Arts Emmy Awards took place on September 3rd and 4th, over two consecutive nights.
