fun, news, tips… what else?

MEPs voted for a measure aimed at relieving parents receiving child support. A voted text, but which is not to the taste of the presidential majority.

This is a first for parents receiving child support. This Thursday evening, October 6, the National Assembly voted in favor of the MoDem bill on alimony. The text tabled by MP Aude Luquet, from the group chaired by François Bayrou, was adopted on the verge of unanimity (46 for, 1 against and 5 abstentions). In its first reading, the main article of the text allows the parent receiving child support to deduct it from their reference tax income (RFR)thus allowing the recipient to have access to the advantages set up by the State.

Indeed, the tax relief to which these parents would be entitled would also allow them to benefit from certain social assistance from the government, in particular the energy check, the allowances or even the boosts linked to the purchasing power law. If this text was supported last night by the deputies of the MoDem, the Nupes and the National Rally, those of the government expressed their disagreement.

Tax-free alimony for good?

This text which allows parents receiving alimony to deduct it from their reference tax income was not to the taste of the government. Indeed, Olivia Grégoire, the Minister in charge of SMEs, Trade, Crafts and Tourism, declared before Parliament that this text had “a serious breach in the calculation of the reference tax income“, as well as economic consequences difficult to predict.

As for the deputies of the political party of the former Prime Minister, Edward Philipthey abstained from voting, letting resonate the words of Denis Masséglia (Renaissance) who warned against “a tiebreaker“. For the time being, the legislative future of this text on tax-free alimony remains uncertain, according to Le Figaro.
