Tesla receives billions in funding

European battery production is funded with sums of billions. According to a report, Tesla will also benefit from this. The company is to receive a single-digit billion amount for its planned production in Brandenburg.

According to a media report, US electric car manufacturer Tesla can expect a single-digit billion amount in public funding for its battery cell factory in Grünheide near Berlin. The magazine "Business Insider" reports with reference to several sources from government circles.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Ministry of Economics did not want to confirm the report on the funding levels. "There is currently no final funding amount for individual projects. The funding documents for the national funding notices are currently being finalized," said spokeswoman Annika Einhorn.

Last week, the European Commission approved the second state-funded EU battery project coordinated by Germany. As part of the IPCEI project, eleven companies in Germany are funded by the state. In addition to Tesla, BMW and SGL Carbon are also included.

Tesla is planning the world's largest battery factory in Grünheide. "Business Insider" reports that the state of Brandenburg also has to pay part of the funding amount for Tesla, because the federal and state governments share the costs. Government circles say that Brandenburg will have to contribute around a third of the funding.
