The lockdown brings a lot of time to watch series. These are the series that are worth binge-watching.

During the lockdown, time often seems endless – as does the selection of series that can be found on different platforms. Many of them are so overwhelmed by the offer that they end up back on their favorite series. There are classics and undiscovered treasures to discover on Netflix, Amazon Prime and Co., which as a series marathon drive away the lockdown blues for a while.

The longest binges

The lockdown is the perfect time to finally devote yourself to the series that previously seemed too long. So far, not everyone has had the muse to grapple with the intrigues and battles of "Game of Thrones" for around 70 hours. All eight seasons can be found on Sky. Anyone who wants the longest possible series experience is also in good hands with "The Walking Dead". The series about a worldwide zombie apocalypse offers around 110 hours of binge enjoyment with ten seasons on Netflix, Joyn + and Sky. The supernatural fights of the brothers Dean and Sam Winchester in "Supernatural" offer more than twice the total length, around 230 hours. 14 of the 15 seasons are available on Amazon Prime. "Grey's Anatomy" (currently 17 seasons) or "Doctor Who" (38 seasons in total) also provide an almost endless binge pleasure.

The best miniseries

So-called mini-series prove that a good series does not need an extraordinary length. They tell short and sweet stories in mostly no more than one or two seasons. The miniseries "Lupine" is currently enjoying great popularity on Netflix. The series is based on the French fictional character of the master thief Arsène Lupine and follows the adventures of Assane Diop, who slips into various roles to commit spectacular robbery and avenge the death of his father. The first part, which consists of five episodes, appeared on the streaming platform on January 8th. The second and final part is announced for summer 2021. Similarly gripping miniseries are the weird dramedy "Maniac" with Emma Stone (32) and Jonah Hill (37) on Netflix, the dark disaster series "Chernobyl" or the political drama "The Undoing" with Hugh Grant (60), both on Sky, or the chess drama "The Queen's Gambit" on Netflix.

Feel-good series

When the weather is cloudy and you want to be cheered up by familiar things, many resort to so-called "Comfort Binges". In other words, series that people watch over and over again because they create a feeling of security and familiarity. Classics like "Friends", "Gilmore Girls", "How I Met Your Mother", "Modern Family" or "Parks and Recreation" are light fare and deal with topics such as friendship, family, love and togetherness. For fans of these series, for example, the Australian dramedy series "Please Like Me" on Netflix offers variety. Four seasons tell the story of Josh who, after a failed relationship, realizes he's gay. Almost at the same time, his depressed mother tries to kill herself. The anecdotes from Josh's newly discovered love life, the challenges of young people in their twenties and Josh's exceptional family situation warm the heart. The series "The Good Place" (four seasons via Joyn +), "Lovesick" (three seasons via Netflix) or "Love" (three seasons via Netflix) promise a real "Feel Good" feeling in lockdown.

Pure excitement

Instead of good mood formats, many prefer a gripping thriller series, the cliffhangers of which leave no choice but to go on. The series "Killing Eve", which Amazon Prime is offering with the Starzplay expansion, promises pure excitement. The critically acclaimed and award-winning series is about agent Eve Polastri, played by Sandra Oh (49, "Grey's Anatomy"), who is the first to track down the cold assassin Villanelle. A game of cat and mouse begins in which both women develop an obsession for the other. "The Sinner" is similarly exciting: Detective Harry Ambrose is initially faced with the task of solving the murder of a young mother of an apparently stranger. The accused can mysteriously not explain her actions to herself. All three seasons of the series can be found on Netflix. "The Handmaid's Tale" (three seasons via MagentaTV, Amazon Prime or Joyn +), "Hannibal" (three seasons via Joyn +) or "Broadchurch" (three seasons on Netflix) also offer real thrills.

These series will be replenished in 2021

In 2021, many fans can look forward to new seasons of popular series. Often reason enough to watch one or the other series (again) to prepare for its continuation. Some Netflix users are longing for the third season of the stalking psychological thriller "You will love me". After the main character Joe Goldberg went murdering and stalking through New York and Los Angeles for two seasons, the last episode ended with a cliffhanger. Does the charming psychopath become sedentary and who is his next object of desire? Netflix announces the resolution of the questions for 2021. Users of the platform can also count on the sequels of "Sex Education", "Dead to Me", "House of Money" and "Stranger Things" this year. In addition, "Star Wars" fans are looking forward to the third season of "The Mandalorian" on Disney +. The popular series "Peaky Blinders", "American Horror Story" and "Dexter" will also have a sequel in 2021.
