In December 2022, Windows 11 clawed back some market share from its predecessor when it comes to Steam.
Despite being seven years old, however, Windows 10 remains the most popular OS on the platform… and by far!
Windows 11 grabs market share on Steam
Every month, the Steam platform conducts a survey of the hardware and software used by its many customers. Data that allows developers to optimize their games, but which is also an excellent source of information on the different versions of Windows, and their popularity with gamers.
The latest survey to date notably shows that Windows 11 continues, slowly but surely, to grab market share from its predecessor. It is important to note that as participation in the survey is optional, the data does not represent 100% of Steam users.
Windows 10 very broad leader, again and again!
Thus, according to data gleaned by Valve from Steam users, Windows 11 is used by 28.42% of users who responded to the survey. This allows the latest Microsoft OS to show an increase of around 5.05%.
For its part, the Windows 10 64-bit system shows a slight decrease, of the order of 3.49%. Launched in the summer of 2015, Windows 10 remains very (very) popular even today, since it monopolizes (again according to data collected by Valve) a market share of 65.42%, and remains very largely in head.
The third step of the podium is occupied by good old Windows 7 64-bit, with a market share of 1.66%, ahead of Windows 8 64-bit (0.41%). Note also the presence of Windows 7 32-bit, credited with 0.11% market share.
The Microsoft environment largely dominates the debates on Steam, with a market share that remains stable at 96.15%. In second position, we find macOS (2.48%), ahead of Linux, with 1.38%.
