Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy A14 5G as part of CES 2023. On the menu of the day: a phone that is definitely affordable, but whose technical sheet has changed very little compared to its predecessor.
New Samsung phone at a knockdown price in sight. The Korean brand has lifted the veil on its Galaxy A14 5G – successor to the Galaxy A13 5G presented in December 2021 – on the sidelines of CES 2023. XDA Developers teaches us a large part of its technical sheet, which is more or less the same as its predecessor.
New elements include the 13-megapixel selfie camera, instead of a 5-megapixel sensor for the previous generation. For its part, the screen diagonal grows slightly: from 6.5 inches to 6.6 inches. To see if Samsung has simply reduced the edges of the phone or changed its dimensions.
By landing a little more than a year after the Galaxy A135G, our protagonist logically benefits from a more recent software experience with Android 13, against Android 11 for the first mentioned. This is an interesting element here since you will benefit from the latest features of this version.
90 Hz always good to take
For the rest, nothing changes: the panel continues to benefit from an FHD + definition and a refresh rate of 90 Hz – a strong point for its price –, but remains confined to LCD. The MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor is there again and again, combined with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of base storage – expandable up to 1TB with a microSD card.
The photo module seems to be composed of the same sensors. In any case, their number of megapixels does not change: 50 megapixels for the main camera, 2 megapixels for the macro sensor and 2 megapixels for the depth sensor.
Again, these last two sensors aren’t the most relevant, with the AI able to handle macro images and portrait modes. It should be remembered that a phone with a lot of sensors is not necessarily an excellent photophone. Don’t be fooled by this marketing gimmick.
Big battery… but very slow charging
The capacity of the battery remains as it is: 5000 mAh, which suggests a very good autonomy… but an interminable charging time given the 15 W charger. The technical sheet is completed by a jack socket for the aficionados wired headphones and earphones, as well as Bluetooth 5.2.
At the time of writing these lines, we only know the price in dollars: 200 dollars, or barely 190 euros excluding tax. In France, the Galaxy A13 5G is officially sold for 200 euros. The date of availability has not been specified.
