  • The tvOs 16.3 update is currently being distributed for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD.
  • This should keep Bluetooth connections to remote controls and controllers stable again.
  • There is also an audio upgrade for Dolby Atmos and the Apple HomePods.

The tvOS 16.3 software update is currently being installed on Apple TV devices and, according to Apple’s update log, brings only a few exciting stability and performance improvements and unspecified bug fixes.

According to the TV technology blog FlatpanelsHD, however, there are at least two changes worth mentioning: Problems with Bluetooth connections to third-party devices such as Xbox (Series X and One) gaming controllers and DualSense devices are said to have been resolved. This is certainly good news for users of the Arcade function on the Apple TV.

tvOS 16.3: More Dolby Atmos on HomePods

In addition, cross-device Dolby Atmos compatibility via HDMI eARC between Apple TV, game consoles, televisions and the Apple HomePods is said to have been upgraded. Apple recently introduced a new generation of its smart speakers, which can also be connected to the Apple TV as a room-filling stereo ensemble.

Also interesting…

The timing is pretty accurate – because the spatial sound effect in particular is a hobby of the new HomePods. Therefore, not only is compatibility with Apple’s Spatial Audio feature important, but fully functioning Dolby Atmos for movies and other media is also desirable.
