Princess Leonor and Princess Alexia have been attending UWC Atlantic College in Wales since 2021 and seem to be enjoying themselves there. No wonder, as new recordings from the boarding school prove.

Away from their royal families, Princess Alexia, 17, and Princess Leonor, 17, have built a new life in Wales. At UWC Atlantic College, the two princesses live and study like each other, without the pressure of royalty. The Dutch and the Spaniards enjoy their privacy to the fullest until they return to their home countries after they graduate.

But there is still some time until then. And this must be used. Especially since the rooms at the boarding school have recently been renovated.

Princess Alexia and Princess Leonor’s college focuses on sustainability

The campus has a total of eight residential buildings, each housing around 50 students. The houses are named: Whitaker, PK, Powys, Gwynedd, Sunley, Tice, Kurt Hahn and Antonin Besse. The boarding school recently shared pictures of the “Powys House” student residence on Instagram, which has been extensively modernized. “Take a look at the incredible renovations going on at Powys House… The student residence underwent a total refurbishment last year and I think we can all agree that it looks fantastic and is making a huge difference to our students,” it reads the rare glimpse of college.

Sustainability is also a big issue here, as the boarding school further emphasizes: “Our goal for a sustainable house on campus is to reduce our carbon emissions by 50% and become carbon-free by 2040. Working at Powys helps us to improve our Reduce dependence on fossil fuels and take the college another step towards ‘net-zero’.” A goal that the two royals will like, but it takes a lot of work. All floors, ceilings and exterior walls of the “Powys House” had to be fully insulated, the house is now heated with an air pump and has a brand new roof, windows and doors. The wood paneling has also been repaired and repainted.

Despite the many construction sites, the project was completed earlier than planned and the budget was not exceeded. “All the work has been carried out with the aim of reducing the future running and maintenance costs of the house. And the best thing is that we have achieved this goal, because in December we had the thermal images of the house measured and it now has a high thermal efficiency,” says the UWC Atlantic College happily.

Whether Princess Alexia and Princess Leonor will benefit from the renovations and live in the “Powys House” is not yet clear. Perhaps Princess Sofía, 15, will soon have the chance to live in the modern student residence. The Spaniard follows the example of her big sister and will also attend school in Wales from the summer.
