The “Mountain Doctor” season ends with the episode “The Way Back”. A big farewell was announced. What’s next after the final?
The last episode of the 16th season of the popular doctor’s series “Der Bergdoktor” (since 2008) will be broadcast this Thursday (February 23, 8:15 p.m., ZDF). And one thing should be revealed in advance: “The Way Back” has a dramatic ending in store.
That’s what the final “Bergdoktor” episode is about
before dr Martin Gruber (Hans Sigl, 53) leaves Ellmau, he wants to accompany the bone marrow transplant at Katharina Schober (Sarina Radomski, born 1987). But then there are problems with the donor. Surprisingly, Katharina’s sister Melanie (Leonie Rainer, 33) turns out to be the donor. The two have not seen each other for eight years. Melanie wants to get the procedure over with quickly, but suddenly she gets health problems herself. The transplantation is therefore acutely endangered. At the same time, Martin is surprised to find that Melanie wants to return to Bremen as soon as possible, where she has lived since leaving Ellmau. Katharina is not very enthusiastic about the fact that her younger sister should be her donor. Against her will, the mother of the two, Gisela (Kirsten Block, born 1960), had asked Melanie for help. Martin knows how difficult it is to find a suitable donor. Why do the two sisters have such a hard time with each other?
As for his own family situation, it seems Martin has given up. His brother Hans (Heiko Ruprecht, 50) is unforgiving and refuses to talk to him. Martin has left the Gruberhof, but he has the feeling that it would be better to leave Ellmau altogether. Therefore he is looking for a successor for his practice and for himself an apartment in New York. Franziska (Simone Hanselmann, 43) lives there with their son. He does not yet know how long Martin intends to stay. Neither his mother Lisbeth (Monika Baumgartner, 71) nor his daughter Lilli (Ronja Forcher, 26) can persuade him to stay. The atmosphere at the Gruberhof is correspondingly tense. Lisbeth feels alone, helpless and more than desperate.

What’s next for the “Bergdoktor”?
It has been rumored for some time that a popular character will be leaving the series. In fact, things don’t look good at the end of the episode. However, the series makers leave it open whether the person will wake up from the coma.
The fans will surely find out how things went on with this hospital bed in the next season. And it should be filmed soon: “The shooting of the new season is expected to start at the end of April,” said the press agency. At least Hans Sigl will be there again. Who else? “The screenwriters always find a twist…”, it says.
Whether after the pretty dark 16th season then finally a new love for Dr. Martin Gruber will give, he said in an interview with spot on news: “Oh, a new love is like a new life … this season will end and the next will come and we are excited to see what will happen then. ..”
What’s on the schedule now?
“Der Bergdoktor” is history for the time being. But Thursday evening still belongs to lifesavers in a picturesque mountain setting, because on March 2nd the new season “Die Bergretter” starts at 8:15 p.m. on ZDF. It starts with the first of six episodes, “At Any Price”.
The plot: Sylvia Redl (Julia Stinshoff), the boss of a Salzburg schnapps distillery, is missing. When Markus Kofler (Sebastian Ströbel) and her brother-in-law Georg Haas (Leopold Hornung) look for her, it becomes clear: the man is hiding something…
