It was not an easy childbirth for this young British mother, who gave birth to the third biggest baby in England!
This Thursday, October 28, Cherral Mitchell, 31, gave birth to her fourth child at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford: a baby named Alpha. At 6.8 kg he is the third largest newborn in the UK behind Guy Carr, born in 1992 with a weight of 7.13 kg and George King, born in Gloucester in 2013 and who weighed 7 kg. However, the weight of the latter is nothing compared to that of this Italian baby born in 1955 and who weighed 10.2 kg at birth, the weight of a one-year-old baby and theth world record according to the Guinness World Records.
You can imagine, for the new mother, this is not the easiest childbirth in the world. To give birth to her son, the Briton needed two midwives. The mother confides that she was happy that her delivery took place by cesarean section because she thinks that she would not have known how to manage a vaginal birth. Gestational diabetes causing the baby’s weight
“We didn’t think it would be that big. Everyone kept laughing when his head came out. My husband cried ‘oh my god he’s fat‘”Says the young mother. “It’s a bit of a baby pumpkin with Halloween so close.”Says a relative. Fortunately, despite the shock, Cherral Mitchell has not lost her sense of humor.
It was only at the end of her pregnancy that Cherral and her husband learned that their baby would be particularly large. Doctors having him diagnosed with gestational diabetes (glucose intolerance which results in an increase in blood sugar in pregnant women) after 35 weeks of pregnancy. Doctors believe that this diabetes may be the reason the baby is bigger than average at the time of delivery. According to some health professionals, the baby ate particularly sweet fluids during the months spent in his mother’s womb. “They believe that because I was diagnosed quite late with gestational diabetes, Alpha was in the amniotic fluid which was particularly high in sugar. He therefore drank in large quantities, urinated a lot and received a large dose of sugar.”Explained Cherral Mitchell.
