A beginning of the end? – The Volkswagen Group is stomping this SUV

According to a media report, Seat is not planning a successor to its SUV flagship called Tarraco. Instead, the Cupra offshoot will receive new crossover models.

This is reported by “Automobilwoche”, citing corporate circles. There is no official confirmation from the VW subsidiary. The mid-range SUV has been on the market since 2018 and is being built together with the technically closely related VW Tiguan in the Wolfsburg plant. To be more precise, it is the slightly longer twin brother of the VW Tiguan Allspace and Skoda Kodiaq. The report does not specify a time when the Tarraco will be phased out. Production numbers recently fell sharply: from around 22,400 in Germany alone in 2021 to 12,500 last year. However, the chip crisis also played a major role. With the loss of the largest Seat model, the Spaniards’ offering for their core brand continues to shrink. Most recently, the manufacturer focused on the sporty lifestyle brand Cupra when introducing new products. Among other things, the electric SUV coupe Cupra Tavascan and the compact hybrid SUV Terramar have been announced. Against this background, there has been speculation for a long time about the end of Seat as a car brand. The Spaniards persistently deny such plans.
