A new PS5 update is already available for some users, and includes several improvements for the DualSense controller as well as screen sharing.
You may be aware that Sony tests all PS5 updates before releasing them to the general public. And in fact, a new firmware was put online today in several countries, including France. A system patch which contains new features and which corrects certain problems noted since the launch of the console in 2020. Here are all the changes planned for this PlayStation 5 beta.

In parallel with big releases at the start of the year like Tekken 8, FF7 Rebirth, The Last of Us 2 Remastered and many others, Sony is adding features to its PS5 and improving points that were lacking until now. To begin with, the manufacturer is tackling the sound concerns of its DualSense controller. With this update, players should better distinguish ambient sounds and character voices coming out of the device. The overall volume will be higher, and if that bothers you, don’t hesitate to go to the Control Center to adjust it.
The other addition to the PS5 controller is “improved noise cancellation” when the accessory’s internal microphone is used. For this, the firm relies on AI. “The mic capture quality on these controllers has been improved by a new AI-based machine learning model. Background noise generated by key presses and in-game audio is removed, improving the voice chat experience ».
PS5 screen sharing is also getting a makeover. Now, a user can directly interact with the current game broadcast by a friend in order to help them. For example, it is possible to insert cursors, ping a location, or draw a line to give more precise directions to follow. Emojis can also be used to congratulate the actions of the player in question, as we can see in the screenshot of The Last of Us 2 below. However, be careful, the host and viewer must install the beta of this update, otherwise it will not work.
Less light for the PlayStation 5
After offering the option to deactivate an iconic feature, the PS5’s startup beep, Sony allows you to configure the console’s power light. However, don’t expect to disable it completely, this is indeed impossible. Three settings are available: low, medium and bright (the standard display out of the box). If you’re interested, here’s how to configure this new feature:
- Go to PS5 Settings
- Go to “System”
- From there, scroll down to “Sound and light signal” below HDMI
- Choose “Light” and the setting that suits you best
This PS5 update is only for members of the beta program, but it will arrive in a few weeks for everyone.
