A Brazilian woman goes to the bank with her uncle who died several hours ago to withdraw money: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

The entire scene was filmed. Erika de Souza Vieira, a young Brazilian, goes to a bank in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday April 16, 2024 to withdraw money. She is accompanied by her uncle, seated in a wheelchair and who appears to be sleeping. She goes to the counter to ask for 17,000 Brazilian reais, the equivalent of 3,000 euros from her uncle’s bank account. Yes, but here it is: the latter, aged 68, has actually been dead for a few hours. It is her inert body that the young woman pushes on the wheelchair, indicate the same day our colleagues of CNN Brazil. In the images revealed, the Brazilian does not hesitate to take the hand of the deceased man to make him sign the withdrawal papers. “Uncle Paulo, are you listening to me? You have to sign. I can’t sign for you”, she told him. Distraught, the bank employees can only notice that the man in front of them is not in good shape. “I don’t think he’s doing well. He’s very pale,” one of the people at the counter told him, who then decided to film the scene.

“He was already dead when he entered the bank”

Without being discouraged, the niece of the deceased replied: “He doesn’t say anything, he’s just like that”she says, before speaking once again to the remains: “Sign so as not to give me more headaches. (…) If you’re not well uncle, I’ll take you to the hospital. Do you want to go back?”. But the bank employees are not fooled. They will then call for help discreetly. Once on site, the firefighters noticed that the man died. “The people at the bank thought he was sick and not feeling well. When he arrived there, the doctor found that he had died, apparently a few hours ago. In other words, he was already dead when he entered the bank”, said Fábio Luiz da Silva Souza, the police chief in charge of the case to CNN Brazil. Quickly, Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes was arrested by the police. During interrogation, she indicated that she was her uncle’s niece and caregiver. An autopsy will be carried out on the victim’s body. For the moment, we do not know the circumstances of the death of this 68-year-old man. Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes should be prosecuted for “attempted theft by fraud” and “harming the integrity of a corpse”. She faces up to 13 years in prison.
