Lufthansa: Losses widen in the 1st quarter


(CercleFinance.com) – Lufthansa publishes a turnover of 7,392 ME for the 1st quarter of 2024, up 5% in one year.

The company nevertheless recorded a sharp deterioration in its adjusted EBIT, which went from -273 ME to -849 ME in the space of twelve months.

Consequently, Lufthansa posted a loss of 734 ME in the 1st quarter (i.e. larger than the consensus forecast), after a loss of 467 ME in the 1st quarter of 2023. EPS thus came to -0.61 euros, compared to -0 .39 euros a year earlier.

‘We cannot be satisfied with the operating result of the first quarter, indicates Remco Steenbergen, Chief Financial Officer of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, pointing in particular to ‘the various strikes’ which had ‘a significant impact on [le] result’.

‘We will further strengthen our balance sheet and over the coming months we will work intensively to offset the effects of rising costs. We have taken additional measures to this end, in particular at Lufthansa Airlines, which is strongly affected by the increase in personnel expenses and costs,’ says the manager.
