A breeze, just for me

Zbetween hellish heat and a pleasant room climate, or rather: blowing, sometimes only a breeze with 0.5 to 2.1 meters per second. This corresponds to wind speed level 1 on the Beaufort scale and is enough to bring us what we are collectively craving at the moment: cooling.

Such a constant breeze cannot be ordered, which is why people generate the refreshing breeze themselves. Previously laborious by hand, with the help of simple palm fronds and artful fans, motor-driven turbomachines have been doing the work since the middle of the 19th century. Fans hang from ceilings, stand in room corners and on desks, or they lurk in handbags, always ready for the next use against stuffy air. The principle is always the same: when air is moved, an air flow is created that cools the body – and guarantees gossip between colleagues, relatives and roommates, because opinions on how windy is too windy differ widely.
