a candidate excluded for posing nude against breast cancer

A candidate for the title of Miss Guadeloupe was disqualified from the election. Because ? She posed naked as part of a campaign against breast cancer …

Anaëlle Guimbi is a young model who wanted to participate in the Miss Guadeloupe election, which took place on Saturday August 22. Except that she was excluded two days before, Thursday, August 20. The reason ? She participated in a photography campaign against breast cancer. In the photos, she strikes a naked pose, and her body is decorated with body painting, her breasts hidden by pink paint and flowers. The photos go back to last year, for the 2019 edition of Pink October.

The committee's decision caused controversy, Anaëlle Guimbi having committed herself to a just cause. "It is not the cause that she defends [which poses a problem], but just a question of regulation that is applied to the letter", explains Sandra Bisson, the regional delegate of the Miss Guadeloupe committee for Miss France, on the radio La 1e. The rules of the Miss France contest in fact prohibit candidates from posing nude …

To AFP, Sylvie Tellier, president of the company Miss France, explains: "The Miss Guadeloupe committee received a denunciation concerning the photos of this young woman. And even if it is obvious that these photos are not obscene or erotic, we have applied the rules to avoid any procedure to the 'against the association of Guadeloupe ". She says to be "sorry and saddened by this situation", and deplores "a society of denunciation" or "Everything is going too fast", because she judges "obvious that this young woman did not participate in vulgar photos". Emphasizing that the "cause is beautiful", she adds : "we cannot make an exception".

The Amazon association, which launched this campaign, said "disappointed and surprised" and requested the reinstatement of Anaëlle Guimbi in the competition, in an open letter to the Miss France committee published on social networks. While many Internet users judge this decision "shameful", the model has received a lot of support, including that of the League against cancer: "Putting your notoriety at the service of the fight against breast cancer: an example that should inspire us all. The League supports Anaëlle Guimbi", we read on Twitter, while the League adds that this decision is "unacceptable". Valérie Trierweiler wrote: "How can we accept that a young woman is disqualified for having shown part of her breast to support breast cancer prevention? Shame on the Miss France committee and full support for Anaëlle Guimbi". Françoise Laborde, feminist journalist ex-member of the CSA, for her part, addresses Sylvie Tellier by questioning: "How can we in 2020 punish a young woman who lends her image for the fight against breast cancer? [She] did not harm Miss France. Punishing her is unfair and shameful."

For her part, Anaëlle Guimbi has decided not to be defeated. On social networks, she explains: "The rules are what they are, I bow but I will always continue to defend the values that are dear to me like this fight against breast cancer". With Franceinfo, she deplores this decision, even if she accepts it, and underlines: "At first I felt really bad. I thought maybe I should have thought about it before. Then, after half an hour, I thought … But where is the problem? C 'is a noble cause, the intention was good and there was no vulgarity in these photos ". We applaud him!
