It seems that the vapor chamber of the models produced by AMD is more particularly in question.

Last month we were happy to get our hands on the Radeon RX 7900XT and Radeon RX 7900XTX signs of renewed competition for NVIDIA on the high end of the graphics card.

What is the problem exactly?

Quickly, the sky darkened for AMD with Radeon RX 7900XTX users starting to report temperature issues. From the outset, it was noticed that only Radeon MBA owners were concerned: MBA being there to Made by AMD or manufactured by AMD.

In other words, owners of partner cards with a different design from the Radeon RX 7900XTX were not affected, but affected by what? A heating that can reach 110°C, just that! We of course think of the dangerousness of the thing, but the card taking its precautions, it is the performances which are mainly affected.

To lower the temperature, the frequencies are reduced and, in fact, the performance drops significantly. It was first a question of incriminating the heat dissipation of the card by underlining a potential contact to be reviewed between the GPU and the imposing AMD heatsink.

The steam room pointed out

A first track quickly dismissed and, in a second time, it is the steam room itself which was singled out. Through two consecutive videos, Der8auer first tried to identify the problem before purely and simply opening the said steam chamber.

Going in the same direction as Der8auer, Igor Wallossek points to a problem which could well be linked to a lack of liquid in the said vapor chamber and specifies that the problem requires the establishment of a feedback system in order to check and correct the thing. Discreet at first, the manufacturer AMD finally responded in a press release quoted by Videocardz. The press release is certainly brief, but it confirms the problem.

We are working to determine the cause of performance issues on Radeon RX 7900XTX cards. From our observations, the cause is the cooling solution of the reference design, but only affects a limited number of cards sold. We are working to resolve the issue on said cards. Customers experiencing this issue should contact the AMD support “.
