The best anti-aging active ingredients to use after 60

  • Moisturizing active ingredients to restore the skin’s protective barrier: “At age 60 and over, the skin becomes drier and can become irritated, due to its thinning with age. To improve the condition of the skin and reduce discomfort, you can opt for the daily application of treatments containing moisturizing active ingredients: ceramides, hyaluronic acid, panthenol, fatty acids. They will help relieve dryness, restore the skin’s protective barrier and protect against irritants/allergens”.
  • Retinoids to boost collagen production: “The skin also continues to lose volume, a phenomenon even more accentuated with the change in sex hormone levels in women (menopause), which is explained by a drop in collagen and elastin. To maintain collagen production and partially firm the skin, you can use retinoids (vitamin A and its derivatives) which will provide subtle differences in skin firming.”.

Facial care after 60: the importance of applying sunscreen daily

After age 60, disruption of the pigmentation process can accelerate the appearance of pigment spots. To prevent their appearance, and avoid accentuating the appearance of existing stains, it is strongly recommended to use daily sun protection.

Even if you notice more and more sun spots and more pronounced wrinkles, this is not a reason to abandon sun protection. A study showed that applying SPF 30 sunscreen daily to volunteers aged between 40 and 55 years old helped to improveimprove skin tone, wrinkle depth and visibility of age spots. Indeed, sun protection still offers many benefits, not to mention the fact that it also helps reduce the risk of developing skin cancer” underlines the expert.
