Prime Video is preparing the return of an absolutely cult film, but the new direction taken by the feature film clearly risks dividing early fans.
Prime Video is following the trend of Netflix and Disney by producing its own programs. Sometimes they are real exclusives, original creations from A to Z. But sometimes they are remakes or reinterpretations of cult works. For example, soon we will be entitled to Mr & Mrs Smith, a series that takes the main lines of the 90s television show with a touch of the film with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. But this will not be the only program to play on nostalgia, because one of the next big films on the platform is nothing other than a remake of a cult film: Road House.
The remake of a cult film on Prime Video
We are at the end of the 80s and a certain Patrick Swayze has been hitting the screen for a while now. The man capsized a large number of hearts with the cult Dirty Dancing. And at the time, he didn’t know it yet, but he would also sign one of the most beautiful love films that exist on earth: Ghost, with Demi Moore, whose music still haunts those who watched it. But between the two, there was another film, a little less known but just as cult: Road House. It’s the story of a somewhat lost man whose past still haunts him, who finds a small job as a bouncer in a “quiet” region. Unfortunately, on the first evening, some bosses showed up and injured him. He is then cared for by a sublime young woman who also has her share of problems. A film that mixes action and romance with a Swayze who doesn’t hesitate to flex his muscles this time.
It is therefore this film which will soon have the right to a remake on Prime Video from March. This time, it’s Jake Gyllenhaal who will hold the helm (or the bar, for that matter) in what seems to be a fairly free reinterpretation of the original film. This new Road House will take up the main lines of the original framework. We will once again be treated to a confrontation between a man with a difficult past against a big local boss. But the action clearly seems to be at the center of everything, and even a bit more blockbuster than the 89 film was. A shift which is certainly likely to make purists cringe. Already the idea of a remake is often difficult to sell. But when you twist the original material, it is even more difficult to swallow.
Let’s not sell the bear’s skin and wait for the release. Road House will arrive on Prime Video on March 21, 2024. The appointment is made.
