In an interview with “La Tribune” this weekend, Marc-Olivier Fogiel reacted for the very first time to the departure of Bruce Toussaint on TF1. The boss of BFMTV attacked the front page, which allegedly tried to poach around twenty of its journalists.
Marc-Olivier Fogiel still can’t believe it. A month ago, Bruce Toussaint announced that he was leaving BFMTV to host TF1’s morning news from January 2024. A surprising transfer, made only three months after the start of the new media season.
“Bruce would have preferred to stay until June”
“In 25 years in the business, it’s the first time I’ve seen that!” exclaimed the boss of BFMTV in an interview with The gallery. Marc-Olivier Fogiel then attacked TF1’s methods. “Bruce told me that he would have preferred to stay until June. But it was a pressing request from TF1 which he could not resist. Without being paranoid, we can wonder if there is not a desire for destabilization. Especially when we see that for a year, TF1 has tried to poach around twenty people from BFMTV, on and off the air,” estimated the boss of BFMTV.
The announcement of the departure of Bruce Toussaint, pillar of the BFMTV morning show, had the effect of a bomb. The private channel had to establish a new schedule for the month of January, something never seen before. With his back against the wall, Marc-Olivier Fogiel had no choice but to draw on his in-house talents to replace Bruce Toussaint. It is therefore Maxime Switek, incarnation since 2020 of 10 p.m. to midnight, who takes control of BFM’s 9 a.m. to noon, from January.
Maxime Switek himself will be replaced by Julie Hammett, host of the early evening slot (8 p.m.-10 p.m.) alongside Laurent Ruquier since the start of the school year.
