Indeed, The Parisian obtained a document dating from December 22, from the institution’s chief of staff. This document states: “Given the nature of these remarks, the Grand Chancellor has, in accordance with article R 103 of the Code of the Legion of Honor, warned Mr. Gérard Depardieu to the opening of disciplinary proceedings. Before adding: “In accordance with this same article, Mr. Gérard Depardieu can now produce his explanations and his defense by means of a memorandum drawn up by himself or his lawyer”.
But who has the authority to withdraw a Legion of Honor? The council of the Order of the Legion of Honor is free to meet and issue an opinion. If the council decides in favor of suspending the decoration, It will be up to Emmanuel Macron to choose whether the Legion of Honor is withdrawn or not.
