Presented this April at the closing of Reims Polar, the international crime film festival, the thriller A Man on the Run raises Bastien Bouillon and Léa Drucker to the top of the bill. Expected in theaters on May 8, it is an ambitious first feature film for director Baptiste Debraux, which he wrote especially for the actor of La Nuit du 12.

“I wrote the film for Bastien. A few years ago, I already had a project, which didn’t come to fruition, where he was to play the main role. But I knew I would write another film for him. For me, it was obvious. He has such depth in his eyes… In the image, its intensity and complexity develop instantly,” he explains.

It is therefore not surprising that it was through a thriller that the director decided to highlight the talent of Bastien Bouillon.

The feature film takes place in Rochebrune, a fictional town on the verge of chaos. Johnny, leader of a protest movement, disappeared after robbing a van. When Paul Ligre hears the news, he returns to the town where he grew up to find his childhood friend before the police. However, Anna Werner’s investigation inevitably leads her to the secret that unites Paul and Johnny…

On screen, Léa Drucker and Bastien Bouillon are accompanied by Pierre Lottin, who had already shared the poster with the 38-year-old actor in La Nuit du 12, and Marion Barbeau, who returns in a cinema role for the first time since En corps by Cédric Klapisch. Théo Navarro-Mussy (Hippocrates), Anne Consigny (Les Revenants) and Philippe Frécon complete the cast.

The film’s soundtrack was composed by members of the group Feu! Chatterton, but without their singer Arthur. “Groups in France don’t often have the opportunity to compose film music, particularly due to budgetary constraints, and we really liked the script, which reminded us of Ken Loach’s cinema,” they emphasize.

A Man on the Run is released in French cinemas on May 8.
