It’s a new divorce in the world of very large fortunes. A few months after Bill and Melinda Gates, another billionaire has just separated from his wife. According to New York Times indeed, Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall have decided to end their marriage after six years of love. Two sources close to the former couple said on Wednesday June 22 that the two were on the verge of a divorce, adding that many of their relatives were very shocked by this breakup which no one expected. According to washington post, This would be the media mogul’s fourth divorce but also his shortest marriage. He had first married Patricia Booker, in 1956, before separating in 1967. A few months later, the billionaire and Anna Maria Torv were married and separated in 1999.
Later that year, Rupert Murdoch married his third wife Wendi Deng in 1999. They separated in 2013. Jerry Hall was married to Mick Jagger with whom she had four children. The two passed the ring on March 4, 2016 during a civil ceremony at Spencer House in London. The media mogul and former model had started dating in the summer of 2015 after being introduced by one of Rupert Murdoch’s sisters and his niece in Australia. They announced their engagement in January 2016 and kept much of their romance private.. And this divorce could cost him very dearly, since his fortune is estimated at 17 billion dollars. But according to a lawyer who knows the magnate well, he had planned the coup by drawing up a very clear marriage contract.
Jerry Hall ‘will receive a generous allowance’
“Jerry will be well looked after under the deal. It’s not designed to make her rich but will allow her to live an independent life.he assured. She will receive a generous living allowance of £5-10million a year for the rest of her life. This covers personnel and security needs. Jerry will get a few houses, maybe Chipping Norton and an apartment in New York, and the use of private jets.” The prenup was designed to give Jerry Hall financial security if she were to outlive her husband, but the exact terms were never disclosed. In the wake of the announcement of the divorce, the former editor-in-chief of the Sun published an astonishing message on Twitter: “I know you were worried about this, but after talking to people about Rupert Murdoch, they assure me that his $17 billion fortune will not be wiped out by his divorce from Jerry”.
