In New Zealand, witnesses filmed a scene worthy of a fantasy film: ravaged by a fire, a vehicle starts and crosses the road without anyone on board.
It is a scene as spectacular as it is frightening which was filmed at the end of June at Raumati Beach by Craig Meek and his daughter, Aimee, residents of Auckland who came to visit their family. In the evening, alerted by a strong smell of gas, they rushed into the street to discover a bus ravaged by flames, illuminating the whole neighborhood. Also out, the owner of the vehicle, a neighbor, watched the fire with concern, fearing that the gas tank would explode before the arrival of the firefighters at the risk of destroying the houses nearby.

It was then that the incident tipped over into fantasy: the headlights came on and then went off 5 times, the horn sounded and then, as in a remake of “Christine”, the haunted car from John Carpenter’s film, the bus started and slowly crossed the street before hitting a tree. “It was surreal and even paranormal,” Craig Meek told the local press. Particularly strange detail, we distinctly hear in the video the sound of the engine starting up. Craig Meek specifies that the vehicle came to stand alongside a tennis court, one of the few places on the street where it did not risk endangering a home…
While this scene was taking place, the owner of the coach, very moved, confided to Craig his memories of happiness shared with his wife: “She loved this converted coach where we had so many good times.” It is also in this same car that she died three years ago. And, in the video, the widower wonders aloud: “I wonder if it was my wife who moved him to prevent the whole neighborhood from going up in smoke…”
Of course, other more pragmatic explanations have been advanced by the many people who commented on the video. The most obvious is that of a short circuit caused by the fire which would have turned on the headlights, triggered the horn and started the vehicle.
But the author of the video remains skeptical: “It’s the timing that is weird. The vehicle would have stayed a few minutes longer in the same place, the damage would have been much greater. And he adds this last confidence of the owner: it is in this same bus that his wife died three years ago.
