a few months before its launch, the Cybertruck reveals itself a little more with these “stolen” photos and videos

Confirmed by Elon Musk for this summer, the Tesla Cybertruck has not yet revealed all its secrets. But now a new leaked prototype on the net gives us new information on the electric pickup: rear steering wheels, LED bar that has disappeared at the rear and triangular mirrors.

Right now

To say that the Tesla Cybertruck is expected is an understatement. And for good reason, the latter was officially revealed in 2019 but has still not started marketing, almost four years later. Admittedly, he still gave some news, notably revealing his interior, but without saying too much. Last May, we remember that the brand had to pause orders for the electric pick-up, due to too long delays.

New Features

But after all that waiting, the Cybertruck is closer to production than ever. Last July, Elon Musk even confirmed a marketing this year. A lot of information has already been given about it, while the leader announced that it would be amphibious, like the YangWang U8. In addition, the American boss explained that it will be the first model of the brand equipped with Hardware 4 (HW4), offering more efficient autonomous driving.

But now we discover new things about the electric pickup, rival of the Rivian R1T and other Ford F-150 Lightning. And for good reason, a new prototype is currently circulating on American roads, suggesting features that have not yet been seen before for this newcomer to the range. And the first is the presence of mirrors with a particular shape, as shown in a photo posted on Instagram by Flavio Tronzano

This one lets glimpse triangular mirrorswhich will be installed in the United States since the use of cameras is not yet authorized. In Europe, the law allows this type of technology, which already equips some cars like the Honda E and the Audi e-tron (renamed Q8 e-tron) and which improves aerodynamics. Some models displaying an excellent Cx like the Mercedes EQS have however decided to do without it.

Electrek specifies that the mirrors could be removable, leaving the choice to the customers, in particular during outings off-road. It is also noted that thehe pick-up is equipped with a hitherto unseen tonneau cover. As shown by other photos relayed by the site Teslaratiit seems to be very spacious. Tesla announces 1.98 meters in length: that’s significantly more than the 1.67 meters of the Ford F-150 Lightning and the 1.52 meters of the Hummer EV.

Four-wheel steering

In addition, the production Tesla Cybertruck will be distinguished from the prototype by the presence of a light strip crossing the rear part on either side. Information confirmed on Twitter by Elon Musk himself. Moreover, the boss of the brand and Franz von Holzhausen, chief designer, confirmed that the pickup design was nearly complete, but some details would still be subject to change.

Among the notable developments compared to the first prototypes, we should also note the presence of four-wheel steering as indicated this video posted on Twitter. This is, to tell the truth, not a real surprise since Elon Musk had already confirmed the arrival of this technology in July 2021.

Production will have red light bar

So, the pick-up will be able to move like a crab, like the GMC Hummer EV. On the other hand, we do not yet know if it will be able to turn around on itself like the Rivian R1T with its Tank Turn mode, whose operation has been slightly modified. Not long ago, Hyundai presented a similar system on its Ioniq 5, but only in prototype form. The latter allows the car to turn its wheels 90 degrees, much like the Mercedes EQG.

Expected for this summer in the United States, the Tesla Cybertruck will also be compatible with Megachargers developed by the brand. The latter, designed to power the Semi, are capable of delivering up to 1,000 kW, or one MW for a maximum voltage of 1,000 volts. This is much more than the 400 kW of Fastned or Circontrol as well as the 500 kW delivered by the Nio terminals.
