The new PS5 arrives in stores, and the first unboxings and other handlings are starting to see the light of day.

A few weeks ago, Sony made its “new” PS5 official. No PS5 Slim officially, but a console whose silhouette has been reduced, with the added bonus of some design adjustments, notably a half-matte, half-glossy finish and a repositioned Eject button. As the console begins to arrive in stores, the first unboxings are out.

The new PS5 versus the old model

Over the weeks, the “new” PS5 will gradually replace the classic model in stores. This new version is intended to be thinner, lighter, but also more modular, with the possibility of adding or removing the disk reader. A first.

If we already knew the differences between this new model and the old one, YouTuber Dave2D was recently able to get his hands on this new PS5. The opportunity to discover a first glimpse of the machine in real conditions, with obviously a little rigorous comparison with its big sister.

An unboxing between surprises and disappointment?

It is through a bundle containing the new game Call of Duty that Dave2D was able to get his hands on this new PS5. The latter first announced that he was very surprised by the lightness of the machine, but also by its size, which was significantly more compact.

It’s also difficult not to wince when faced with a quartet of removable panels, compared to two for the classic PS5.

However, if the videographer indicates that he has always purchased, and appreciated, the Slim versions of old PlayStations, this “new” PS5 is a bit of an exception. The matte/glossy mix would be questionable, but the overall impression would also be a bit ” cheap “.

For its part, the disc reader can be detached from the console… without requiring the slightest screwdriver. The same goes for re-engaging the player on the console, the latter clips into the location provided for this purpose with one click. Finally, the videographer confirms the sadness of the new horizontal support supplied with the machine.

The new PS5 model will soon arrive in stores, at the price of
549.99 euros for the version equipped with the Ultra HD Blu-ray player, and 449.99 euros for the Digital Edition.
