a game already killed, it’s a disaster

The new The Walking Dead games are real industrial accidents. Faced with the failure of a title released this year, the studio decided to stop everything.

If The Walking Dead series is still as popular as the comics, it is however much more complicated when it comes to video game adaptations. And especially in recent weeks with the game of shame: TWD Destinies. A software that pushes the limits of mediocrity and which has scared Steam users away. Let’s still salute the 187 people who attempted the adventure and left an opinion despite the multiple red flags in the trailers. But this is not the only recent production that will end up in the abyss of failed games.

This The Walking Dead game will never be released in its final version

After The Walking Dead: Destinies, a new game from the cult license is in turmoil. Which ? Betrayal. A TPS in isometric view which can accommodate up to 8 players, survivors who must do everything to avoid being eaten by zombies. Basically, the title was released on Steam in early access… and it will remain in this state forever. Publisher Skybound Games and studio Other Ocean Interactive have announced that development will not continue, and that The Walking Dead Betrayal will even be removed from the Valve platform very soon.

After considering different avenues, having numerous discussions and reflections, Skybound Games and Other Ocean Interactive have decided to stop development of The Walking Dead Betrayal. Despite the teams’ hard work on the game, we couldn’t find a way to build a vibrant community like we had originally envisioned.

Starting December 11, we will begin removing the game from Steam. Then, on December 15, we will end the title. All players who purchased it will be fully refunded. Thanks to everyone who played, betrayed and provided feedback! Your support and commitment are very important to us. We look forward to bringing you more The Walking Dead experiences in the future.

Via Steam.

Despite the failure of The Walking Dead Betrayal, which received very mixed feedback, the studio seems to be preparing to exploit the franchise in one way or another in the coming years. A strange statement after announcing the end of a game that had only existed for four months. The good news is that buyers will be able to get a refund for their purchase. How ? Two scenarios:

  • You purchased TWD Betrayal on Steam directly: you must follow the traditional refund procedure. No trap, it’s explained and very easy to win your case with Valve
  • You purchased TWD Betrayal via another reseller: here, however, you will have to contact the reseller’s customer service with the hope that The Walking Dead Betrayal will be reimbursed at the end
