A gameplay trailer for AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative

For those who have not touched the first opus released in September 2019, the narrative adventure game by Kôtarô Uchikoshi (Zero Escape) and Spike Chunsoft is divided into two parts, the investigation in the real world (Investigation) and the one in the dream world (Somnium). Like a point & click in subjective view, the player must examine the crime scenes to collect clues and get the most out of witnesses and other characters related to an obviously sordid case.

To help them, young Mizuki and Ryuki can count on the functionalities of Aiba and Tama, artificial intelligences housed in their orbit that can activate X-ray vision, thermal vision or even recreate the events in a virtual environment. In this sequel, a new feature allows you to read the minds of key people in order to reveal what they are hiding, but this is of course only a taste of the phase Somniumwhich allows the player to enter the person’s memories when they are asleep and placed in the machine.

During this phase, the assistants Aiba and Tama take over and are directed directly into surreal environments. A sort of time-limited puzzle, this phase requires you to search the premises, find the right interactions with the environment and answer the questions correctly to circumvent the psychological locks that separate the player from the truth. Slightly hazardous sequences in the first episode but which we could obviously start over at leisure.

AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative will be available on June 24 with English/Japanese voice acting and English text.
