A golden semester for Livret A

The collection of the Livret A and the Livret de développement durable et solidaire (LDDS) for the month of June 2022 is positive by 1.29 billion euros for all the networks. In June, the Livret A inflow was 1.04 billion euros, down slightly from that of May (1.7 billion euros), but higher than that of June 2021, where it had been zero. Over the first six months of the year, it totaled 19.06 billion euros. Total outstandings on the two products reached 488.7 billion euros at the end of June 2022.

“Despite its negative real return, the Livret A remains the safe haven par excellence for the 54.9 million French people who have one. In recent months, households have favored the security, liquidity and zero taxation of the Livret A over returns. The absence of investments combining security and yield also leads them to opt for the Livret A. It should also be noted that households continue to maintain an unprecedented level of liquidity in their current accounts, more than 520 billion euros, i. of 17,000 euros per household”, observes Philippe Crevel, director of the Cercle de l’épargne.

Collection for 2022 was boosted by the increase in the interest rate for the Livret A and the LDDS from 0.5% to 1% on 1er february. For the rest of the year, these two booklets should benefit from the increase in their remuneration on 1er august. This progress “should lead to a resumption of collection between the months of July and September, even if traditionally the second half of the year experiences one or more months of outflow linked to the holidays, back-to-school purchases or those at the end of the year », believes Philippe Crevel. And this despite the level of current inflation, which is higher than the 2% interest paid by the preferred liquid investment of the French.
