Traveling to Lille this Friday on the occasion of the Yellow Pieces operation, Didier Deschamps, the coach of the France team spoke about the international retirement of defender Raphaël Varane. And take the opportunity to salute the career in Blue of the one who has 93 appearances in the jersey flanked by the rooster.
A new member of the French football team said goodbye to the Blues this week. At only 29 years old, Raphaël Varane announced the end of his international career leaving behind him a convincing career, marked by a title of world champion gleaned in 2018 in Russia. A true defender of the tricolor defense, he was aligned 93 times by his coach Didier Deschamps. The latter also paid tribute to him this Friday in Lille, on the occasion of the closing of the Yellow Pieces operation.
“Thank you for everything he has given to the France team”
“Obviously, it’s a departure that doesn’t make me jump for joy. But I respect his choice,” assured the coach before praising the irreproachable behavior of the former Madrid player within the France group.
Didier Deschamps was in the North this Friday.

“Beyond his talent, it’s also a state of mind, always in relation to the collective. Thank you for everything he gave to the France team”. And to evoke the change in status of Raphaël Varane over the course of his international career which began in 2013. “I had the privilege of bringing him when he was young, he was 20 years old. At the beginning, he listened to the old and then he transmitted”.
For Varane, this end of international career does not sound the death knell of his adventure in the world of professional football. “His career is not over, he still has adventures to live with his Manchester United club”, remarks Didier Deschamps who concludes: “He is a great player and a great man who is also stopping his international career”.
