A hidden drawing by Picasso sold at auction for 158,000 euros

Une nice acquisition. An art lover bought himself a drawing by Picasso at an auction held in Manosque, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, on Saturday June 11. The drawing – a nude made with felt-tip pen and baptized head of a woman – went to the highest bidder for 158,000 euros, reports BFM DICI. This is around three times the amount originally estimated by Aix Luberon Enchères (between 50,000 and 60,000 euros). Note that the lucky buyer came forward by telephone and overtook all the bidders present on site, at the Manosque auction house.

This drawing by Picasso is a nugget because of its history. The illustrious Spanish painter and draftsman made it in the 1950s. It was then a wealthy French banker who had it in his hands and, from there, the drawing disappeared from the surface of the Earth several dozen ‘years. To be found only recently in a closet during an estate inventory, in a house located in the south of France.

Star of this auction, the drawing head of a woman by Picasso was not the only prestigious work to change hands. Other XX artists^e century were honoured. A Caesar bronze also aroused all desires.

Last year, another auction had mobilized many potential buyers in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. A drawing by Henri Matisse had been snatched up at a golden price and had flown away for 220,000 euros. Just that.
