The next Spider-Man spin-off from Sony’s Spider-Verse is finally revealed with a first trailer. Should we fear the worst after the failures Venom and Mobius?
In parallel with Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony Pictures has developed its Spider-Man Universe. A shared universe that focuses on Spider-Man and the characters who revolve around him. We thus had Morbius and Venom spin-offs, and on August 30, 2024, it is Kraven the Hunter who will be the center of all attention in a dedicated film. But it’s another character, who we’re not used to seeing in the cinema either, who will be highlighted beforehand.
A new Spider-Man spin-off… but without Spidey
While waiting for a good scenario to be found for Spider-Man 4, which would encourage Tom Holland to return to service, Sony Pictures continues to develop its shared universe. For the next Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024, you will be able to get a ticket to witness the first steps of Madame Web. A spin-off with Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb / Madame Web, but in a different version. It will indeed be an origin story. “We tell the story of Madame Web. If you are a fan of Spider-Man, you will love the character, because you already know her. But since his character has never been very developed in the comic books, we decided to tell his origins. So we meet her before she became Madame Web, and we understand how she became this person. It’s going to be a completely new interpretation for the fans.” Dakota Johnson said in an interview.
A Spider-Man spin-off without Spider-Man, but with Spider-Woman Julia Carpenter, played by Sydney Sweeney who exploded with the HBO series Euphoria. We also find a Frenchman very well known in France, Tahar Rahim (Un Prophète), who landed the role of the villain Ezekiel Sims. Upon seeing the trailer, some Internet users have already renamed the film Spider-Man: Final Destination, obviously linked to the horror saga Final Destination. Surprisingly, the feedback is generally positive, even if some find more or less objections.
