Evening surprise good evening. Sony has just announced the date of the very first State of Play of the year. Here’s when and how to watch it, as well as the expected games.
The rumors around the next State of Play can finally end. For several weeks, it has been rumored that the publisher would present a large part of the line-up of the PS5, but also of the PlayStation VR 2. The current calendar is in fact still very vague, beyond FF7 Rebirth and Rise of the Ronin. The manufacturer will correct the situation very soon with an event which promises to be generous in announcements.
Where and when to watch State of Play?
The rumor will not last forever. Since last week, insiders and dataminers have been having a field day: an event around PS5 games was being prepared. A State of Play at this time of year wasn’t all that surprising, and the formalization seemed all the more imminent when one of them revealed a large part of the line-up this weekend. Everything indicated that Sony had already uploaded its conference to YouTube and the announcement would be made immediately. It didn’t fail. On the evening of Monday January 29, the American manufacturer confirmed that a State of Play will be broadcast this week.
The appointment is given this Wednesday January 31 at 11 p.m. French time, on YouTube and Twitch, for 40 minutes of announcements of all kinds around the productions that will mark the year for PS5 and PS VR2 players. Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade are currently the two games confirmed for this event. Officially at least, since a list has already made the rounds on the Web earlier today. Between Until Dawn, Death Stranding 2 or even the new game from the creator of Bioshock, there would obviously be some nice cartridges which will be shown this Wednesday evening, one of the surprises having been spoiled: a new Metro game entirely playable in VR.
What games to expect?
If the emphasis will clearly be placed on the partners’ PS5 games, it cannot be ruled out that some of the publisher’s productions will emerge. The Japanese giant had already made the move with God of War Ragnarok and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in previous editions, but Sony has no big releases announced for this year. Perhaps we should expect more information on its service games in development like Fairgames by Jade Raymond, revealed last May? See you this Wednesday evening to find out.
