A League of their Own: Baseball series canceled early – no 2nd season despite extension

In August 2022, the series adaptation “A League of Their Own” started on the streaming service Amazon Prime Video. Despite critical acclaim and some coveted awards, the baseball series has arguably not proven to be a streaming high-flyer. Despite being renewed for a second season in March 2023, the series has now been canceled after season 1.

According to the US online magazine The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon initially decided in early 2023 to produce a second season with just 4 episodes. The significantly shortened season should also be the last.

The fact that this statement was not yet a thing set in stone was stubbornly emphasized by series creator Will Graham via Twitter. In a tweet, Graham wrote that the news of a cancellation after Season 2 was by no means official. At the same time, he called on fans to make their voices heard and to demand more episodes and more seasons as loudly as possible.

But none of that seems to have helped, because now the end of “A League of Their Own” has been decided even earlier than expected. Although the series has been renewed, it now ends after Season 1. Amazon cites the author and actor strikes in 2023 as the reason, which cost numerous series the extension.

For Carson Shaw actress Abbi Jacobson, Amazon’s justification for canceling the series because of the strikes is “moronic and cowardly,” as she announced on Instagram. In the post, she also thanked fans of the baseball series and the team involved in making A League of Their Own.
