Will Emmanuel Macron face Marine Le Pen again during a televised debate, this time during the European elections? In both camps, the idea is gaining ground. On the side of Macronie, we are still wondering whether it is of interest or not, to relaunch the campaign of the Renaissance candidate in the European elections.

Will Emmanuel Macron debate against Marine Le Pen or not? While the head of the National Rally deputies in the Assembly was not opposed to the idea, provided that the meeting takes place after the European elections, in the presidential camp, there are still questions.

A debate with Marine Le Pen has been the subject of reflection for several weeks, confirms those around Emmanuel Macron. But nothing has been done… What is certain is that the President will continue to be involved in the campaign, explains one of his close friends. A duel with the boss of the RN is in any case pushed by certain supporters of the head of state who want to make it a key moment of the campaign.

A strategy reminiscent of that of François Mitterrand in 92

Their idea: focus the entire issue of the June 9 election on this confrontation to put pressure on Marine Le Pen, and eclipse the socialist Raphaël Glucksmann in order to keep him at a distance from Valérie Hayer, the head of the Renaissance list in the European elections . The objective would therefore be to impose a binary choice, between the Eurosceptics of the National Rally on one side and the pro-Europeans of Renaissance on the other.

A strategy reminiscent of that of François Mitterrand during the campaign for the Maastricht Treaty in 1992. As the referendum approached, the socialist president invited Philippe Séguin, the main defender of “no”, to a televised debate. The “yes” finally won narrowly.
