a makeup artist’s tip for an ultra-natural glowing healthy glow

Popularized by makeup artist Nam Vo, the sandwich blush technique is ideal for giving a healthy glow in a very natural way. We’ll explain how to do this makeup trick at home.

Stick, cream, powder or jelly version, blush is a must-have product this spring-summer 2024. Ideal for awakening the radiance of the complexion and giving a healthy glow, it can also be used on the lips, eyelids and even sometimes on dark circles as a concealer. A true multifunctional product that sometimes requires a little dexterity to be applied perfectly, especially when it is very pigmented…

To create a natural and luminous healthy glow with blush, make-up artist Nam Vo popularized a technique she calls the “blush sandwich”. At stake ? A fresh, luminous complexion and an ultra-natural rosy effect on the cheeks. “It’s like the blush color comes from inside your skin” explains the makeup artist. What is the sandwich blush technique?

As the makeup artist explains in a video posted on her social networks, the blush sandwich consists of apply blush between two layers of foundation. The makeup artist applies a first layer of cushion foundation then places a highly pigmented blush stick on the cheekbones. She then blends the material by applying a new layer of cushion foundation to the cheeks, in a very thin veil, and using tapping movements. The color of the blush is thus perfectly blended, and it seems to appear transparent under the cushion foundation. A very subtle and luminous effect which gives the impression that the skin is naturally dewy.

To enhance the color of the blush, and give it even more radiance, Nam Vo then applies an iridescent powder blush. Enough to deposit an additional veil of light and intensify the healthy glow effect. The result is stunning: an ultra-luminous glowy complexion, a blush that is very present while being natural and perfectly blended.

3 blushes to achieve the sandwich blush technique

Blush sandwich: an ideal make-up tip for blending out a too-showy blush

Some very pigmented or very dark blushes can be difficult to work with… It also sometimes happens that we apply too much blush on the cheeks, and we don’t know how to blend the material. To create a softer and more blended effect, sandwich blush can also be a good tip in this type of situation. Once the blush is applied, place a touch of foundation or concealer on the cheeks then blend the material with a sponge or brush. You will thus obtain a less muted color and a much more natural result.

If you want to give a softer, more natural side to a very pigmented blush, don’t hesitate to mix it on the back of your hand with a little bit of concealer. Then apply the mixture to the cheekbones, like a classic cream blush. The result will be much more blended and subtle…
