Released this week, the Turkish drama “Yurt” is the best film of the week according to the press. Its average is 3.6 out of 5.
Released last Wednesday in our cinemas, the Turkish drama Yurt was well received by the press present on AlloCiné, since its average is 3.6 out of 5. It is the best film of the week, ahead of A few days not more (3.5) and It’s raining in the house (3.4).
This partially autobiographical black and white learning story, by Nehir Tuna (who for the occasion is directing his first feature film), was also noticed at festivals, notably in Venice, Saint Jean de Luz, Marrakech, Gothenburg and Istanbul.
What is it about ?
Turkey, 1996. Ahmet, 14, is devastated when his family sends him to a religious boarding school (Yurt). For his recently converted father, it is a path to redemption and purity. For him, it’s a nightmare. By day, he attended a secular and nationalist private school; in the evening, he finds his overcrowded dormitory, long hours of Koranic studies and bullying.
But thanks to his friendship with another resident, Ahmet defies the strict rules of this system, which only aims to recruit young people.
