In Canada, a young mother has just given birth to a baby weighing almost… 7 kilos! A real record, so much so that Sonny, this already chubby baby, is making headlines all over the world!

Did you know ? The average size of a baby at birth in France is 3.5 kg. Also, according to a recent study conducted by Lancet Global Health, babies are increasingly smaller at birth (2.5 kg on average) around the world, particularly because of the malnutrition of millions of women in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. We note that this trend also tends to be confirmed in Europe.

No wonder little Sonny Ayres is considered a real little outsider! Born on October 23, 2023 by cesarean section, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, this little boy surprised his parents by arriving into this world with a nice healthy weight: 6.71 kg on the scale! Enough to beat the hospital’s weight record since the creation of the hospital database in 2010.

A mother who has “big” babies

Very quickly, little Sonny became a local and then national star… before his story was told to the whole world. Britteney Ayres, her mother, made an appearance on the show Good Morning America and admitted to having a habit of having “big” babies, she who was already the mother of four children. “Marigold weighed 5.96 kg. And Lucky was 5.95 kg” she remembered. If she does not give the exact weight of her two eldest children, Chance (6 years old) and Everett (soon to be 5 years old), there is no doubt that their weights were also above normal.
If the doctors had warned the future mother and her husband that the baby would weigh around 6kg, they had no doubt that he would also be in good shape. “Never in our wildest dreams did we think it would be this big” explained the dad before adding: “I’m blown away. Words can’t describe it. It’s one of those feelings that overwhelms you at first and then you just can’t explain.” Exhausted but happy, the mother assured that she and her husband do not want to have more children. “We have a beautiful family. It’s a labor of love.” Contacted by CTV News Kitchener, Dr. Asa Ahimbisibwe, obstetrician gynecologist by Britteney Ayres who gave birth to Sonny, who certified that he is to date the largest baby he has seen born in this maternity ward.
