A mother stabbed in Vaulx-en-Velin, her husband in police custody

Rescue was notified by one of the couple’s five children, aged 12. It could be the thirtieth femicide since the beginning of the year.

A horrifying, chilling scene. A mother was found stabbed to death on the night of Saturday April 30 to Sunday May 1 this Sunday in Vaulx-en-Velin, near Lyon. Around 1 a.m., the emergency services were called by one of the five children of the victim, aged 12. The 36-year-old woman was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds. Despite receiving heart massage, she was pronounced dead around 1:30 a.m., the same source added.

The victim’s husband, 39, fled at first before quickly giving himself up as a prisoner at the police station. He was still in custody on Sunday morning. The man was not known for domestic violence on his wife, indicates the prosecution. A source close to the file nevertheless specifies that he had been implicated for violence on a previous companion.

Three of the couple’s five children aged 4, 10 and 12, present at the home at the time, were taken to hospital for psychological treatment, according to the Lyon prosecutor’s office. The two eldest, 18 and 21, were absent from the home. The Departmental Security has been seized of the investigation.

It could be the thirtieth femicide since the beginning of the year according to the count kept by Release. Since January 1, 2017, we have been documenting these murders of women killed by their spouse or their ex, a way of telling the lives behind the figures, the social fact behind the news item. To count, but above all to tell. To pay tribute to these women of all ages, from all walks of life, living all over France, killed because they were women. To quote their first name, tell what we know of their family, professional, love life; and the circumstances of their death in an attempt to overcome the coldness of the statistics.
