A firmware update to Apple’s AirPods Max headphones has reduced the quality of noise canceling. A strange fact for the brand’s high-end headphones.

In general, a software update of a device improves its operation or corrects at least problems. It is rare to discover that an update to one of its devices can actually decrease its performance.

However, this is what the test site RTings.com discovered concerning firmware update 4E71 of the Apple AirPods Max headphones.

A loss of efficiency

According to the site, once the update is installed, the active noise reduction offered by the headphones is less effective on the bass. On the treble, the site also notes a very slight difference, but almost imperceptible this time.

The firmware update was rolled out in May, several months ago, without causing any major uproar from users. Sign that the proposed change should not be so significant. Either way, Apple didn’t announce it publicly at the time of the rollout, and it’s unclear why the firm decided to lower the level of discount on its headphones.

A future update to the AirPods Max headphones may fix this change in behavior. We hope that the firm did not offer this update to increase the level of progress that the possible future 2nd generation AirPods Max will offer.
