The Summer Game Fest was an opportunity to unveil an Xbox exclusive that still had a lot of similarities with BioShock. So much so that Microsoft had to speak up.
During the Xbox Showcase during the Summer Game Fest 2023 festivities we were able to discover a certain Clockwork Revolutiona Steampunk-style action RPG by InXile to whom we already owe Wastelands 3. But very quickly a comparison with Bioshock is particularly the episode Infinity pointed the tip of his nose. So much so that in addition to regular viewers, Twitter user Butmac, who claims to have produced the trailers for BioShock Infinite in 2013 also wanted to speak out officially on the subject. Has a new controversy just arisen? In any case, the man does not go with a dead hand since he literally speaks of violation of intellectual property. More precisely in his original message in reaction to the conference he states in these terms:
I’ve never seen a game take inspiration from another game as directly as this Clockwork Revolution did with Bioshock Infinite. I mean, it’s on the level of intellectual property infringement.

A little over 10 years ago I had the opportunity to produce the trailers for BioShock Infinite, and so those scenes are seared into my brain. Watching the Clockwork Revolution trailer today felt like I had a flashback, so I did some comparisons to see if I was crazy…
Going through his Twitter feed, it is clear that it is difficult to deny the source of inspiration, but from there to accuse the Xbox exclusive of openly plagiarizing Bioshock… To take the temperature, our colleagues from Eurogamer wanted to contact Microsoft to learn a bit more about the story topic to gather hot reactions. The Xbox spokesperson says:
Any similarity is unintentional. Players will be able to fully customize their own main character in-game.”
What is this game ?
Clockwork Revolution is an Xbox exclusive and first-person action RPG. The studio makes great promises about it since, in addition to character creation, each of our actions should have a more than significant impact on what is happening in the city. Steampunk-like, the title could also very clearly be described as being deeply Victorian in its artistic direction. For the moment we have no release date about it and we only know that it will be released on Xbox Series and PC.
