What should you know about “The Blood Hunt”, the brand new Korean series to be found exclusively on Netflix?
Not only do Korean Netflix series follow each other but are not alike, but since the Squid Game phenomenon, it is undeniable that productions from South Korea are arousing growing enthusiasm among subscribers to the platform!
While it is no longer surprising to see at least one Korean drama appearing in the top 10 most viewed series on Netflix every week, here comes a brand new production which should, unsurprisingly, in turn be successful with the audience.
Although its title La Chase dans le sang evokes the direct-to-DVD thrillers of the early 2000s, this adaptation of the webtoon Bloodhounds (Korean comic book, editor’s note) is neither a thriller nor a film dealing with any epidemic transmitted through hemoglobin.
Gambling, villain games
Because La Chase dans le sang is a Korean drama in the dramatic sense of the term. Its story takes place in our time, during the Coronavirus-19 crisis when the epidemic has further widened the gap between the richest populations and the poorest classes.
To get out of it, the poorest have no choice but to borrow money from ruthless loan sharks who in return impose high borrowing rates which will only have the effect of increase their debts. At the same time, the series follows the story of two young boxers who become friends when everything seems to oppose them.

Driven by a sense of justice, the latter will go to war against a formidable crime syndicate. An unleashing of violence will then fall on them, while it will no longer be possible to turn back. A social drama punctuated by a lot of action and violence, La Chase dans le sang is therefore aimed at an adult and informed audience.
Despite the societal context of the film, the realism of the series is offset by action scenes reminiscent of the atmosphere of fighting video games (notably Double Dragon, minus the supernatural aspect), even beat ’em all. The pleasurable aspect therefore makes it possible to appreciate the series without making us miss the seriousness of its subject.
