Google is reportedly working on a new low-cost Chromecast. The device was certified by the FCC ahead of its launch.
For several months, a rumor has been circulating about a new Chromecast with Google TV which would have the particularity of being sold at a very low price. Protocol told us in January that this device would be able to offer a 1080p Full HD definition for old televisions, as well as a chip capable of decoding the new AV1 format which is increasingly used.
It would therefore be the 4th generation of Chromecast key that we can always hope for less than 40 euros in France. A simple and practical product that would now have passed the FCC in the United States.
An important step before the launch
It was the Droid-Life site that spotted this new certification for Google from the FCC. The latter does not explicitly indicate that it is a Chromecast, but rather a Google wireless device under the product name Google G454V. The device is known to be equipped with 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi 5, as well as Bluetooth LE.
To test its certification, the FCC connected the device to an external monitor without the need for a cable, implying that it directly integrates an HDMI cable, and powered it via a USB cable. This exactly matches the description of a Chromecast. In addition, the device comes with a remote control, similar to the Chromecast with Google TV. The FCC also says it tested video streaming at 1080p at 60Hz, which matches the leaked specs of the upcoming Chromecast. Everything points to this device.
Certification with the FCC is usually one of the last design steps before a product is introduced. Google could thus unveil this new Chromecast in the coming weeks. The firm could also keep it in its boxes until its big launch at the end of the year where the Pixel 7 will be the star.
