In a press release, dated February 12, 2021, the Haute Autorité de Santé "updates its opinion on the vaccination of people with a history of Covid-19 in order to take account of advances in knowledge". France thus becomes the first country to estimate that a single dose of vaccine is necessary for people already infected. The recommendation given is addressed to all people who have had an infection with SARS-CoV-2, confirmed by an RT-PCR or antigen test. Such persons "should be regarded as protected for at least 3 months by post-infective immunity. However, "the current data do not allow for the moment to rule on the immune response beyond 6 months", specifies the opinion. According to health experts, this single dose will act as a booster, because those infected retain an immune memory."The vaccination of people who have already been infected must be considered within the framework of the established prioritization rules, that is to say according to their risk of developing a serious form of Covid-19 because of their age and / or comorbidities ", explains HAS. For people who become infected shortly after receiving a first dose of vaccine, they "should not receive the second dose within the usual timeframe, but within 3 to 6 months after infection."
Since the launch of the coronavirus vaccination campaign on December 27, 2020, more than 2 million people have received a first dose of the vaccine, "of whom more than 500,000 completed the vaccination schedule by receiving a second dose ", recalls the HAS.
