A new trailer for Like a Dragon: Ishin

The franchise once led by Toshihiro Nagoshi made two forays into ancient Japan, one in 2008 with Ryu ga Gotoku: Kenzan and one in 2014 with Ryu ga Gotoku: Ishin. He is the second nominee that Sega has selected for a remaster families which will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC, with texts in French and an introductory price of 60 euros. This special issue takes us to the 1860s, the period of Bakumatsu well known, for example, to lovers of Wanderer Kenshin (and which we will find in 2024 with Team Ninja’s Rise of the Ronin, by the way). This time of great change for Japan will lead to the end of its isolationist policy and sign the twilight of the samurai.

Sega makes history again

If he claims to stage historical figures, the characters of the game have the look of the protagonists of modern times, starting with Sakamoto Ryoma who borrows the features of Kazuma Kiryu and who is of course camped by Takaya Kuroda. Within this great historical play, fans of the series will therefore be able to have fun identifying many familiar characters in new incarnations, even those who met an untimely end in Kamurocho or elsewhere. The game takes place in ancient Kyoto and strives to offer as many activities as the Like a Dragon modern, even if it was necessary to find equivalents to karaoke and other hostess clubs, and that we will not escape certain anachronisms in the form of a wink.

Sega assures it, the game remains a Yakuza at heart, which involves skillfully juggling between the solemnity of the political and personal narrative stakes of the main quest and the absurdity of the activities for everything related to side quests and mini-games. Compared to traditional episodes, the use of bladed weapons and firearms also promises to be more important, which does not prevent Sakamoto Ryoma from knowing how to fight hand-to-hand.
