Tecno Mobile is making a notable entry into the world of gaming with its new portable augmented reality (AR) device, the Pocket Go, presented at MWC 2024. This unique device does not have a traditional screen, but is relies on AR glasses equipped with two 0.71-inch OLED micro-displays. These innovative glasses are connected to the controller via a standard USB Type-C cable, enabling an immersive experience in AR games. All with AMD hardware.
A portable console but…AR
First of all, what is Tecno Mobile? It is in fact a relatively little-known manufacturer in France, but belonging to the Chinese group Transsion which is still the fifth largest seller of smartphones worldwide. The manufacturer is mainly present in Southeast Asia and Africa, but has no distribution in Europe. Based on this premise, its technological novelty in augmented reality is intriguing.
Tecno Mobile’s Pocket Go stands out for its integration of the AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS APU, a powerful chip with 8 Zen 4 cores, 16 threads, and a frequency of up to 5.1 GHz. The TDP of this chip can be configured between 20 and 30W, with 16 MB of L3 cache, ensuring a smooth and responsive gaming experience. In addition, this APU integrates the Radeon 780M iGPU based on RDNA 3, with 12 computing units operating at 2700 MHz, thus offering a fairly nice gaming performance.
On the hardware side, as wccftech reports, the controller, which houses the brains of the device, is slightly larger than normal to accommodate the APU. It is equipped with standard buttons, joysticks and triggers, meeting the usual expectations of gamers. The Pocket Go also benefits from 16 GB of LPDDR5 memory and a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, ensuring optimal storage and loading speed for games.

Tecno Mobile’s AR console is powered by a 50Wh battery, enabling the AR glasses to create projections of up to 215 degrees at a distance of 6 meters, promising an immersive gaming experience anywhere. Although details regarding the price and launch date of the Pocket Go have not yet been revealed, this device is already positioning itself as a promising innovation in the portable AR gaming landscape. The launch of the product should take place within a few months as reported by our colleagues at lesnumeriques. But for the rest, it’s radio silence. For example, there is no known pricing.
