a podiatrist’s brilliant recipe with an unlikely ingredient

In summer, it is not uncommon to sweat your feet. A simple foot bath can however solve this problem according to a podiatrist who reveals an easy recipe, to make with an inexpensive ingredient that we almost all have in our cupboards.

Heat rashes, make-up that does not hold, traces of perspiration under the breasts or excessive perspiration under the armpits… Summer is not easy. If it is not always easy to know how to choose the right deodorant to stay dry under our t-shirt, the matter becomes even more complicated when it comes to solving our problems of perspiration in the feet. And this for very good reasons: the materials with which our shoes are made are not absorbent and macerate perspiration to the point where it becomes smelly, and when they are smelly like those of sports shoes, they promote the growth of bacteria.

Fortunately, it is possible to avoid excessive foot sweating by doing a simple homemade foot bath as explained in the Dr Sutera, a podiatrist American interviewed by Well + Good. More specifically, the doctor recommends doing a foot bath made from black tea to sweat less feet, because this tea would act “a bit like a natural antiperspirant” according to her.

Tea foot bath: how to prepare it to reduce sweating of the feet

To make your anti-perspiration foot bath, be careful not to use just any tea bag, because not all types of tea offer this anti-perspirant effect. It absolutely has to be black tea, because “it’s the tannins” contained in this tea that will make “temporarily narrow the sweat ducts”, so that you don’t sweat as much as usual. The podiatrist also specifies that the tea must be left to infuse for a long time in the water of your foot bath for it to be effective. A good way to tell if you’ve steeped your tea long enough is to check if the water is “dark”, a bit like too strong a tea that you couldn’t drink.

Foot bath against perspiration: here is the frequency with which to do it so that it is effective

As with all foot soaks, be sure to soak your feet for at least 10 minutes so the black tea has time to work. But above all, get into the habit of doing it every day for a few days because the antiperspirant effects are not immediate.
Small originality of this foot bath: the treatment does not stop once you notice that it is effective on your perspiration in the feet. The podiatrist advises to continue to make foot baths with black tea regularly so that its effectiveness continues.
