A renationalization of EDF is not under study – Bercy

PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The government does not plan to renationalise EDF, despite the financial effort required of the group to contain household electricity bills, a source at the Ministry of Finance said on Wednesday. .

“There is no scenario of this nature on the table,” said this source about a possible renationalisation. “The State will always be, by all necessary means, alongside EDF and its employees,” she added.

The French State holds 83.9% of EDF.

More than a third of the employees of the public group were on strike on Wednesday against the request of the State to sell more electricity to its competitors within the framework of the mechanism of regulated access to nuclear energy (Arenh). This measure could cost around 8 billion euros to EDF, on the basis of market prices observed between the end of December and January 12, and could force the electrician to launch a capital increase, according to analysts.
